Put your scraps to work: Fabruary project

Oh my goshhhh... February is already gone! Why does time go so fast? :( Anyway, we have to use every second of it! And this month I think I've done it fairly well, especially with the challenge Put your Scraps to work. I’ve already explained you what is this about when I showed my project of January on THIS POST. This month I decided to finish something that I had in my to-do list for a loooong time: a cover for my "new" iron board. The ones who sew and most especially those that do patchwork know the importance to iron allowances all the time to have a perfect piecing. Therefore, having the iron board next to the sewing machine is the ideal. Till now I was using a tiny table, which I bought at Ikea for less than 4€ (this one). However, after a long usage, the poor little was so ramshackle... It also had a twisted leg so the table was always slanted. I use to put it on the floor and iron with my knees on the floor... Do you already have a mental image of me kneeled and ironing? Well, that wasn’t comfortable at all, as you can imagine. And I had an idea in my head: use a kitchen folding table that goes fixed to the wall and turn it into my new iron spot. The table that I wanted was the Norberg in white, but it was a little expensive. So I checked at the website pikeando.com, a site for buying and selling Ikea second hand products, or sometimes, like in my case, brand new and in its original packaging. I met in Barcelona with a very friendly guy who sold it to me for half the original price (yay!) and I already had the table! Which after a creative session, tuned from this...

To this!

Què us n’he de dir jo... m’encanta!
So what can I tell you... I love it! It is SO MUCH helpful! Not only to iron on it. When I have all my sewing stuff spread everywhere, it’s great to count with some more work surface. And when it’s folded it only occupies 15 cm in a useful shelf, which is perfect to keep the iron there.

I took the challenge #putyourscrapstowork to make the iron board cover. I used some remnants of a couple of charm packs of two different collections of Bonnie & Camille, specifically Vintage Modern and Ruby. I love how the colors that these designers use come together with the turquoise wall of my studio, and combined with white solid fabric highlight much more the colors.

I was improvising the pattern while I was putting the pieces together and measuring the final size, and I can’t be happier with it!! But if I had to make this again, I won’t forget to trim all the half square triangles… it has been a nightmare for piecing! So here is my advice: even if the pieces are small and you’re running out of time, always trim them!

No us oblideu de penjar-hi l’enllaç als comentaris! :)
